The Part 2 Written pathway focuses on applying medical knowledge to clinical vignettes. ZYS writes original material intended to test interpretation and decision-making, rather than rehearsing a memorised phrase.
Read the stem critically
A good practice vignette provides enough clinical context to support a decision. ZYS aims to make important findings meaningful, avoid unnecessary distractions and distinguish competing diagnoses or actions fairly.
Understand the alternatives
An explanation should identify the decisive information supporting the best answer, and what makes each alternative less appropriate in that specific stem. If several answers are defensible, the question needs editorial repair.
Use current guidance responsibly
Where management decisions are taught, the intended source hierarchy favours relevant UK guidance and specialty standards, with dated and specific citations. International evidence should be clearly distinguished from UK recommendations.
Beta and review status
The Part 2 bank is in beta and grows in checked batches. Each question records its review status; clinical review of some items is still in progress, and nothing is described as clinician-approved unless that approval is recorded.
